The tourism ministry, the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) and the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana on Saturday welcomed a team from WSEE-TV, the CBS affiliate in the Caribbean at a reception held at the airport.
The crew comprising Joey Stevens, Bob the parrot and Lily and Bob Miulich will be visiting various tourists sites including Kaieteur Falls, the Rupununi, Iwokrama and will also be meeting and interacting with citizens. According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release these images will be captured on film and will be aired on the CBS, Caribbean Weather channel. The coverage aims to promote and showcase the country’s tourism product and capacity.
CBS/One Caribbean Weather carries weather, sports, entertainment and business reports in 32 Caribbean countries including Guyana. The channel is also viewed in Central America and Northeast, USA and is viewed by about 37 million people.
Stevens said he was delighted to visit Guyana and excited to see what the country has to offer. He said the films will entice persons to come to the country.
GTA Director Indranauth Haralsingh said the crew of CBS/One Caribbean Weather will help to boost the destination image and awareness of the country. He said this will help to stir up demand for Guyana’s tourism product. Haralsingh said he hoped this marketing strategy will propel Guyana into the spotlight.
