Food For The Poor (Guyana) Inc on Friday handed over to the Ministry of Agriculture over 20 portable gasoline-fuelled water pumps, which will be used to assist farmers with drainage and irrigation.
The pumps were procured at approximately $660,000 and the donation is timely considering the current weather situation which has impacted agriculture throughout the country, a release from the organisation said.
Alvin Doris, senior public relations officer at Food For The Poor (Guyana) Inc, handed over the machines on behalf of the NGO to Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, George Jarvis.
And while thanking the NGO for the pumps, Jarvis noted that they will be invaluable to the ministry’s efforts to frontally address drainage and irrigation concerns, the release added.
