Residents of Chinowieng, an Amerindian community in Region Seven, who were affected by the La Nina weather phenomenon, were given food and equipment by the Ministries of Amerindian Affairs and Agriculture earlier this month, according to a GINA report.
The community also received an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) to assist with its transportation needs while the food items included rice, peas, oil, salt and flour. Other materials included seeds, ant bait and spray cans.
Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Pauline Sukhai, Permanent Secretary Collin Croal and Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, George Jarvis recently visited the village to address the residents’ concerns, GINA said.
Food items were also distributed to residents of Wax Creek.
