Dear Editor,
`Treat the youths right’ by Jimmy Cliff, should be played on our local air waves regularly, adults should sing this appropriate song every day; record-bars particularly the mobile ones, should play it frequently; the birds would chirp it at dawn so that parents, foster parents and all those adults who abuse our youths, would be compassionately moved deep within their hearts and remember they were once youths.
Adults ought to acquaint themselves with Psalm 127 verses 3 and 4 “Lo children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man, so are children of the youth.
Continued child abuse could spawn a generation who would hate their parents and broadly speaking all child abusers. Our old national motto “youth must build the nation” seems to be forgotten today, as child abuse is becoming more prevalent and continues un-abated.
Tortured juveniles may resent that part of our national anthem “Love our fellow citizens” (either young or old) as they recall the trauma experienced at the hands of adults. If adults should treat them right the youth would treat them right in return. So treat the youths right.
Yours faithfully,
George Carrington
