The Young Achievers started with a bang to climb to the top spot in the Castrol Strikers/Guyana Volleyball Federation Championships which commenced yesterday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The Achievers team, which hails from West Demerara secured convincing wins when they met Eagles and Port Mourant, winning 15-3 and 15-12 against Eagles and 15-9, 15-11 to demolish Port Mourant.
After challenging match-up Castrol Strikers defeated the Georgetown Girls in their opening game, dropping the first set 15-8, but getting back into the game to win the other two 15-8 and 15-6 against the only female combined team in the competition.
Eglets rose above the Georgetown women 15-12 and 15-12, followed by Rollers’ tough 15-14, 15-13 win against Port Mourant. The competition will continue next weekend at Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara.
