Four persons are in police custody assisting with investigations into the murder of security guard Ronald Cato last Wednesday.
A senior police officer told Stabroek News yesterday that the men are being interrogated and the police are working with the little information they have managed to gather so far.
The body of Cato, 44, of Lot 58 Non Pareil, East Coast Demerara was found in the security hut at Section C, Enterprise, ECD last Wednesday, after what is believed to be a robbery. His hands and feet were tied with pieces of his sheet. The discovery was made by a ‘checker girl.’ A post-mortem examination revealed that Cato died by strangulation and that he was also hit in the head with a blunt object.
The perpetrators are believed to have removed batteries from a lorry, an excavator and a grader that were parked nearby. Residents in the area did not recall hearing any strange sounds prior to the discovery. A team of policemen and a tracker dog combed the area for clues but came up empty-handed.
Cato is to be buried on Friday.
