A mason was yesterday sentenced to two years imprisonment at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, after he pleaded guilty to the charge of breaking and entering with intent.
Rajpaul (only name), 23, of Number 1 Helena, Mahaica pleaded guilty when acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson read the charge and she subsequently handed down the jail sentence. Rajpaul admitted that on July 17 at Georgetown, he broke into the bond of Katlyn Rambotan with intent to steal. He told the court that he was on his way to the market when he was stopped by a man who told him, “Ah gah a lil wuk fuh yuh do fuh meh.” Rajpaul said that he was not given a description of the job he had been asked to do but followed the man to a bond nonetheless.
The court heard that when he had gotten to the bond, Rajpaul was told by the man to squeeze himself through a little hole which the man could not pass through, in order to release some hardware items.
He explained that it was while he was in the bond in an attempt to pass the items to the man that the police came and arrested him.
The Police Prosecutor said nothing was stolen. He told the court that on the day in question Rambotan secured her bond by means provided and went out. She later received a call that it had been broken into. The prosecutor added that the defendant was told of the offence, admitted his guilt and he was subsequently charged.
Rambotan was not present in court.
