MONACO, CMC – Jamaican sprint queen Veronica Campbell-Brown will go head to head with in-form American speedster Carmelita Jeter, in one of the headline clashes of the Herculis 2010 international meeting here today.
The contest, the 10th of the lucrative IAAF Diamond League, comes on the heels of their clash in Eugene three weeks ago when Campbell-Brown got the better of Jeter in a world-leading time.
While fans in the European principality will not get to see sensation Usain Bolt or his Jamaican counterpart Usain Bolt, they will be entertained by former World champion American Tyson Gay who lines up in the 200 metres.
Campbell-Brown, however, will be looking to maintain her dominance over Jeter when the two clash at the Stade Louis II.
The reigning Olympic 200 metres champion put down her marker at the Prefontaine Classic with a splendid run which was a personal best 10.78 seconds but said her aim today was simply to win.
“I have improved already and have seen the result. I’d been waiting for a PB for a long time and finally put a good race together in Prefontaine,” the 28-year-old said.
“Now, I’m hoping that I can continue to execute my race in the way I’ve practiced. I don’t know [about another PB]. The objective is just to go out tomorrow and execute well.
“There are a lot of talented women running tomorrow. If a PB happens I’ll be grateful but the objective is just to get to the line first.”
Jeter, meanwhile, has also been outstanding this year, having already run a season-best 10.83 seconds in Eugene when she trailed in behind Campbell-Brown.
Since then, she has won in Lausanne and Gateshead and currently leads the Diamond League championship race.
