Three pieces of luggage have been returned to the Guyanese boxers in Puerto Rico for the Central American and Caribbean Games from airline carrier LIAT.

According to Chef de Mission Deion Nurse the luggage arrived at the airport and then at the Games Village sometime yesterday afternoon.

Nurse indicated that himself and manager of the boxing team, Maurice Rajkumar, have been working to retrieve the misplaced luggage.

He said he was not in a position to reveal who were the boxers that had actually gotten back their luggage.

Stabroek Sport was also told yesterday that it was difficult to make contact with any LIAT personnel but they will continue to try since the fighters and one hockey player, whose luggage is also missing  are becoming increasingly incensed.

He also said that the CAC Games’ organisers have expressed their sympathy to the local contingent. According to Nurse the organisers said that they will also try their best to have the luggage retrieved before the boxers enter the ring tomorrow.

President of the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) Steve Ninvalle said yesterday that he told the boxers to use the delay in the delivery of their luggage as a motivation to beat their opponents when the tournament begins. Ninvalle said when he spoke to the boxers he told them that he understands their frustration of not receiving their luggage and that they should not be wholly sidetracked from their tasks ahead.

The boxers who had been affected by the luggage delay were Team Captain and 1998 Junior Commonwealth silver medallist Clevlon Rock, Bert Braithwaite, Dexter Jordan and Herlando Allicock.
