Randy Raghubir, a fisherman of North Ruimveldt, was remanded to prison when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court charged with beating his reputed wife.
He pleaded guilty to an assault charge when acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson read it to him.
He denied however that on July 21 at his North Ruimveldt home he assaulted Navita Rohoman. Raghubir told the court that he did not intend to beat Rohoman “but she is de one that start de scramble.”
The magistrate then entered a not guilty plea for him.
Meanwhile, Rohoman stated that on the day of the incident she was in the kitchen cooking when Raghubir asked her to show him their child’s school test papers.
She said that she told him that she couldn’t at the time since she was cooking.
She noted that Raghubir then got upset and dealt her several punches to her head.
She said that he then twisted her arm and proceeded to give her a thorough beating but she managed to escape and ran to the police station where she reported the matter.
Raghubir is expected to make another court appearance on August 4.
