DENNERY, St Lucia, CMC – Half-centuries from Kyle Mayers and Kraigg Brathwaite briefly raised Barbados’ hopes but rain once again squashed them, as their fourth round match in the TCL Group West Indies Under-19 Challenge against Guyana finished in a disappointing no decision yesterday.

Resuming at their overnight five without loss, Barbados were on course for first innings points at 171 for four when rain at 3:25 pm halted play.

With no ease in the adverse weather, umpires called play off two hours later, leaving Barbados especially disappointed at only grabbing three points from the encounter.

In the time available, Mayers smashed a pugnacious 74 while Brathwaite crafted an unbeaten 69, as Barbados pressed on after play started an hour and 40 minutes late on the final day due to damp bowlers’ run-ups at the Dennery Playing Field.

They reached 40 without loss at lunch and went in pursuit of much needed first innings points after the break with positive cricket.

Entering the fray with Barbados in a spot of bother, Mayers played freely, gathering 10 fours and three sixes in 152 minutes at the crease.

He fell just before the rains came, caught at mid-wicket trying to hit left-arm pacer Andre Stoll (2-22) out of the ground.

Earlier, Brathwaite hit eight fours and dominated a 50-wicket first wicket stand with Clint St Hill who scored 13 before falling lbw, sweeping at off-spinner Anthony Adams (2-49).

Guyana were in charge when the dangerous Roston Chase was bowled by Adams playing back at 56 for two but Brathwaite and Mayers posted an entertaining 112 for the third wicket to put Barbados back on top.

Mayers dismissal was followed closely by that of Justin Greaves without scoring with no addition to the score at 168 but rain had the final say.
