The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and the Museum of African Heritage recently released the calendar of events to mark Emancipation this year.

The events will begin tomorrow and will culminate in the annual celebrations in the National Park on August 1, according to an advertisement published in the daily newspapers.

Celebrations, to be observed in regions 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 10, will be held under the theme “Our Culture, Our Strength, Our Survival.” In the capital, from tomorrow until July 30, the Ifa House of Santeria will be holding activities to praise ancestors in front of Demico House. These will run from 6:30pm to 7:00pm, nightly.

Further, the Museum of African Heritage and the Ministry of Culture will be holding a lecture series and an exhibition at the National Museum in August. However, dates are yet to be confirmed.

On the eve of Emancipation Day at Parliament Buildings, the National Emancipation Trust will commence activities at 7:00pm with drumming sessions followed by a Church Service.

The Candle Light Parade will move off at 10:00 pm while the Libation Ceremony will commence at 11:00pm.

It is expected that several groups from Region 4 will form part of this celebration.

On August 1, the celebrations move to the National Park, where there will be cultural presentations, displays of African clothes and food, among other activities. A sunrise church service hosted by the St. Peters African Apostolic Church will be held at the Park.
