The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) is asking public and private institutions at which ID cards may have been left to surrender all such cards to the nearest commission office.
In a press release, GECOM said it has recorded a significant number of applications for replacement ID cards which is putting an avoidable burden on its resources. It said it is cognizant that persons may inadvertently leave behind ID cards after conducting personal business and it is aware that persons have lost cards due to robberies. However, in the first instance, it is asking public to return the cards to its offices to help it to reduce costs spent on replacement cards.
Alternatively, public and private institutions could contact GECOM’s office at telephone numbers 225-0277, 226-1615, 226-1652 or 223-9650 to make arrangements for the cards to be collected. ID cards returned to GECOM would be sorted and sent to respective registration offices responsible for the area of residence of the respective registrants.
