The Norman Singh Turf Club, West Coast Berbice will come alive again today when horses compete in seven events for over three million dollars in prizes in the St. Andrew’s Anglican Diocese annual charity meet.
Over 60 of the country’s top race horses have entered the meet for what is expected to be a day of top notch racing.
The day’s feature will see horses in the `C’ class competing for the Banks DIH trophy and $400,000 over a distance of 1400m.
The `C’ class entrants are Delmur Gold, Sweet Caramel, Night Crescendo, Annie’s Playmate, Sweet Revenge, Madame Butterfly and World Class.
The three-year-olds Guyana and West Indies bred horses will be competing over 1300m for a first prize of $250,000 and trophy, compliments of Dr. Phillip Da Silva. The A. Ally and Sons General Store and business enterprise sponsored `F’ and lower showdown has a winning purse of $160,000.
Some of the horses that will feature in this race are Night Crescendo, Laura Lee In Flight, Face D Music, Southern Sea, Sir Balajee, The Gap, One of a Kind, World Class and Prixie Fire.
Another hotly anticipated race is the specially created event for the two-year-old Guyana-bred animals that will gallop over 1100m for a top prize of $150,000. Some of the top steeds in this race are Cash Connection, Royal Salute, Nordan Junior, Big Drive, Kevin, King Gambler, Nigerty and Speed Vision.
According to reports coming from organizers over 100 horses have been imported into the country and all of the stables have moved to restock their stables to breed the animals locally. Beverage giants Banks DIH has been one of the leading organisations to pour money into the sport of Kings. The winner of the competitive `G’ and lower gallop, sponsored by communications giant GT&T, is set to take away $140,000. In the `I’ and Lower race the winner is expected to race away with the $120,000 top prize; Dream Girl, Funny Side, Little Spike, Savion and Custom Warrior are some of the entrants for the race.
Divisions one and two contests will see the horses competing for a winning purse of $100,000.
The final event of the day for the division three horses has a winner’s money of $80,000.
Some of the other horses that will be on show are Infinity, De Gump, Black Beauty, Spread The News, Monilisa, Natural Black and Silver Kid.
In the `H’ class there are Rude Boy, Casino Royal, Vanessa, Prospectors Pride, Customs Warrior, Lyana and Amy Jane.
The champion jockey and trainer will receive trophies from Ramesh Sunich of Trophy Stall, Bourda market.
