The suspect in the brutal murder of a Port Mourant, Berbice woman on Friday was yesterday taken into police custody.
Hospital sources yesterday confirmed that Kumar Ranjisingh, who allegedly knifed to death his 43-year-old wife, Yashpattie Singh of Johns, Port Mourant on Friday, was discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital yesterday.
The man was promptly taken away by the police as his seven-year-old daughter wept uncontrollably. A relative who was on hand, told Stabroek News that his brother’s condition appeared to be ok; Ranjisingh attempted to hang himself after the attack on Singh on Friday.
The police in a release stated that investigations have so far revealed that Samaroo had gone to a shop during which she was attacked and stabbed about the body by her reputed husband. She was later pronounced dead on arrival at the New Amsterdam Hospital.
The release added that the police quickly located the suspect at his home (in Johns Squatting area) where he attempted to commit suicide as he was found hanging from a length of rope in his bedroom.
He was taken down and rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital from where he has been transferred to the Georgetown Hospital under guard. A blood-stained knife suspected to be the murder weapon has been recovered by the police.
