The Guyana National Rifle Association (GNRA) rifle team continued their winning streak by winning the prestigious Overseas Challenge Cup a four-man team shoot.
The team comprising Commonwealth Games selectees Mahendra Persaud and Ransford Goodluck as well as United States-based John Fraser and Sigmund Douglas, picked up from where they left off in Barbados recently to beat the Falkland Islands who got the silver medal while Holland took the bronze.
Persaud topped the team shoot with 103.11 V-bulls shooting two possibles at the 500 and 600-yard and 33.2 at the 300 yards.
Caribbean Champion Ransford Goodluck was next with 102.13 V-bulls, shooting a possible at the 300 yards range.
John Fraser also contributed with a possible at the 500 yards range.
The team amassed 400.14v to win the Cup and gold medals.
This is the best performance by a Guyanese team at the Imperial Meet in its history, said secretary of the G NRA Ryan Sampson.
“It is very commendable as it was not an easy feat to achieve, challenging world class shooters, he added.
This is the 150th Anniversary of the Championship at Bisley, which is regarded as the mecca of shooting.
The Imperial Meeting continues with the Queen’s Prize this weekend.
