Stabroek Market beat Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GHPC) by one-wicket Wednesday evening at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground Bourda in a feature 25-overs-a-side softball match. GHPC, batting first after winning the toss, scored a challenging 151 all out while the Stabroek Market, in reply, struggled to 152-9 off 16.2 overs.
Stabroek Market failed to reproduce their usual dominance as Greg Rambarran grabbed a hat-trick to finish with 6-29 from his allotted five overs. Demerara inter-county softball batsman Amrit Jairam batted responsibly even though wickets fell regularly at the other end to score 30 which included three sixes and two fours.
Skipper Ryan Boodhoo supported with 21 while Timur Mohamed ended on 22 not out. Earlier, GPHC lost first-division player Marcus Watkins cheaply but Jason Andrews batted purposely to make 26 at the top while Lionel Perreira mixed solid defence with occasional aggression to topscore with 44. The right-handed Perreira hit four massive sixes and two fours as man-of-the-match Ryan Boodhoo bagged four wickets for 29 runs from his five overs while Basdeo Persaud picked up two victims.
The winning team and the man of the match were recipients of trophies compliments of Kissoon Variety Store.
