The African Cultural and Development Association (ACDA) will host two days of sporting events at the National Park on August 1-2.
The events on August 1 will begin from 11am and will feature circle tennis, cricket, boxing, dominoes and events for the blind while the events the next day will be dedicated to youths.
The circle tennis competition will be a 75-ball affair while the cricket competition will take the form of an eight overs-a-side softball competition for males and females and a tape ball competition for the males. The boxing event will be an exhibition for club teams.
The day will also feature a dominoes competition with the preliminary rounds taking place at the Guyana Legion Hall, Carifesta Avenue from 19:00hrs on July 29.
The dominoes competition will be contested by the National Communications Network (NCN) a Rest Team, Edward Beharry, the Guyana Legion, Guyoil and an All Stars team.
A registration fee of $10,000 per team will be charged. Cash prizes and trophies will be doled out to the top three teams; the player sharing the first love while the most valuable player will also be rewarded.
The events for the blind will be a six over cricket competition and 40 and 60-metre races.
On Monday, the events will begin from 10am and will see five-a-side and penalty shoot out small goal football competition. Also carded are 60-metre races for children and a five-mile freedom race which will begin at the 1763 Monument, Square of the Revolution and end at the National Park.
Participants from the Georgetown, East Bank and West Coast Berbice areas are expected to participate. Interested persons can contact ACDA Sports Organiser, Johnny Barnwell on 689-7037.
