The Aziza Akousa Nature resort will host its 15th annual Emancipation Swimming Festival at the Madewini Creek, Linden-Soesdyke Highway from 10am on Sunday.
Under the guidance of the Haimara Aquatic Club of Linden, the event was created with the assistance of the communities stretching the length of the Madewini Linden-Soesdyke Highway areas.
Some years ago businesses began sponsoring individual events and patrons are encouraged to come out and participate for a chance to win some of the lucrative prizes that will be up for grabs.
Others are encouraged to come out to enjoy the festivities. And for the full entertainment of the patrons, music will be provided by Stereo Sonic.
The main event of the day, the “Carib Freedom Swim”, will be sponsored by Ansa McAl, under its Carib Beer brand. The company will also be sponsoring two tug-o-war competitions, and two water volleyball competitions.
For the Freedom Swim prizes will be awarded to the top three performers. The first place winner will be in receipt of $20,000, while $10,000 will be awarded to the second place winner and $5,000 will be for third place.
Also among the list of sponsors is Banks DIH, which will sponsor two 6 – 10 years old races that will span the distance across the creek. . Hyacinth Abel will sponsor two kickboard races across the creek, and GT&T will be sponsoring a freestyle 50m race for the female seniors, while Albert Sarjoo will sponsor the male senior 50m race.
There will be novices’ ladies and men’s races sponsored by Auto Fashion and Trophy Stall respectively. Auto Fashion will also be sponsoring a freestyle race for junior girls, while L. Mohabir and Cambio will be sponsoring the junior boys’ race.
The 20m freestyle races for senior males and females will be sponsored by Sarjoo Cambio and Sanjay’s Jewellery respectively.
