GCF stages seven rounds blitz chess tourney Saturday

Following the successful staging of the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) in conjunction with the International Chess Federation (FIDE) Rating Tournament, local chess players will now turn their attention to Rapid Chess (blitz).

Apex Insurance Brokers Incorporated will sponsor a one-day Rapid Chess tournament on Saturday at the Keishar’s Sports Club, Camp and Hadfield Street, Georgetown.

The tournament will be a seven-round, Swiss system affair with a time limit of 40 minutes per game.

Registration starts at 9am on Saturday and the first pawn will be pushed one hour later.

The tournament will be held in two categories seniors and juniors.

Tournament fee for non-member seniors is $800.00 and juniors $600.00 while senior members will pay $300.00 and junior members $200.00.

The tournament is being organised by the GCF and all interested players are asked to bring along their chess set and clocks.
