A BBC crew and a team of adventurers will be here next year to retrace the footsteps of Sir Walter Ralegh.
From January to March, they will be exploring Guyana’s wilderness, Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Manniram Prashad announced. BBC Coordinator, Ben Major will be leading the exhibition, the Government Information Agency (GINA) reported.
Prashad said that the exploration will aid the creation of a 10-part, half-hour long series to retrace the footsteps of Sir Walter Ralegh to search for the fabled city of gold, El Dorado. Shooting will be done at several locations including Waini, Shell Beach, Kaieteur Falls Surama and Raleigh’s Peak. The team, which will include eight children, will journey from Trinidad to Guyana on sailboats.
GINA reported Prashad as saying that Guyana will benefit the most as it will be very costly to have such marketing on the BBC. He said that the Ministry and the Guyana Tourism Authority endorse and support and will facilitate the expedition. “Sir Walter Ralegh came here in search of the City of Gold and now the world will get a chance to see the true gems of our destination, our giants of our kingdom, wildlife, pristine intact forest and natural wonders, among others”, he said.
