The National Emancipation Trust (NET) is hosting its Annual Freedom Night Vigil Libation Ceremony at Public Buildings, Brickdam.
In a press release NET said observations start on Saturday from 7.30pm and will continue to ‘Fore-Day’ morning on Sunday until 3am. The release said this is the 18th occasion on which this yearly three-part extravaganza will be held since its inauguration on July 31, 1992.
This year celebrations are being held under a theme adapted from Jamaican call song “Come light a candle, come sing sankey, ring the bells of freedom, come find out all about your own and find your way back home.” The three parts of the eight-hour session in the forecourt of Parliament Buildings will as usual be devoted to religious, cultural and educational aspects of the Celebration of Emancipation of ‘Freedom Night’ to commemorate the most important event in African Guyanese History.
The religious aspect of the programme will feature the singing of hymns, led by the House of Judah of West Coast Demerara, followed by addresses from pastors from all congregations in addition to contributions from Christian, Muslim, Hebrew and the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.
