A man who is accused of maliciously wounding his cousin was refused bail yesterday by acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson when he appeared before her charged with the offence.
Rondell Allen was not required to plead to the indictable charge which alleges that on July 18 he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Kevin Frank.
Allen, 22, of 2T North Sophia told the court that on the night of the incident, he was passing his cousin who began verbally abusing him. Allen told the court that Frank then pelted him with a bottle and attacked him.
In retaliation, he said that he cuffed Frank in the face. He added that when he was about to go to make a police report he was further attacked by Frank.
However Police Prosecutor Inspector Stephen Telford said that about 21:00hrs, Frank was sitting in front of his residence when the accused and another man were passing and Allen hurled remarks at him. An argument ensued between the two and the accused picked up a brick and pelted the complainant to his eye.
Frank became unconscious and was taken to the hospital where he underwent surgery to his left eye. He continues to be a patient at the Georgetown Hospital.
Bail was then refused and the matter put down for August 6 for report on Frank’s condition.
