Defending champion Robin Persaud will be looking to retain his crown when the Regan Rodrigues 50-mile cycle road race takes place on Sunday. Persaud won last year’s feature event in a time of one hour, 59 minutes and 47 seconds. This year’s event commences at Wales Police Station from 9am, proceeds to Bushy Park on the East Bank of Demerara before returning to the Demerara Harbour Bridge for the finish.
The Veterans, Upright and Ladies events will turn back at Uitvlugt Community Centre and finish at the Demerara Harbour Bridge.
The first six finishers, three Juniors, three Veterans and three Upright cyclists will receive prizes.
There will also be two special prizes to the first female and first over 60 years Veteran to complete the distance.
Eight Prime Prizes will be up for grabs during the race.
Rodrigues, who died in 2004, was a former president of the Carlton Wheelers Cycle Club and the Guyana Cycle Federation.
He was also a former motor racing champion and sport enthusiasts.
The race is being sponsored by Ricks and Sari and Argo Industries Limited.
