A 75-year-old man who was on his way home last evening from a funeral was struck down on the Catherine Public Road, Mahaicony by a RAV4 driven by a police officer.
The man, Malcolm Moore of #42 Village, West Coast Berbice, was reportedly about to cross the road at around 7:15 pm when he was hit. He was rushed to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
His daughter, Nicasey, who received the phone call about the tragic news, told Stabroek News that herself, an older brother, Troy Moore himself a police officer, and their father had attended his great niece’s funeral in Mahaicony. She said they left their father at the funeral and returned home under the impression that he would have been given a lift home by relatives.
The man’s wife, 67-year-old Joan Moore, was very distraught when this newspaper approached her and in tears she said her husband left home “good, good” and that he was a strong man who had no medical complaints and always did work in his yard.
