The three men who were allegedly involved in a pluck chicken scam that fleeced a couple of over $2.2M in chicken were granted bail on Thursday by acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
At the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, Drepaul Persaud, 38, of Angelet, Canal Number One, West Bank Demerara, was separately charged with two counts of uttering a forged document and two counts of obtaining by false pretence.
He was also jointly charged with Tazim Gafoor, 37, of Windsor Forest, West Coast Demerara and Nazir Gafoor Madhoo, 39, of Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo, with two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony.
Persaud is currently on bail in the sum of $1.1M, while Gafoor and Madhoo are on bail in the sum of $300,000 each.
The men had allegedly concocted the scheme to relieve Nandrani Balram and Leo of over 6,000 pounds of plucked chicken.
The magistrate ordered that the trio appear at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrates’ Court on September 10 for another hearing into the conspiracy charges against them. Persaud is to appear at the Vigilance Magistrates’ Court on the same day for the other matters pending against him.
