Dear Editor,
My visit to the just concluded 2010 NACRA/CAC Rugby Tournament was well worth the effort and gave me an in-depth understanding of the sport. It was a well-organised event and the planning committee should be commended.
Both the male and female teams did us proud, and we should be very appreciative of the fact that we have won NACRA five times in a row, qualified for the 2010
Commonwealth Games in India and will also be representing the entire Caribbean at the 2011 Pan-American Games in Mexico. That in my books is an amazing achievement.
Credit should be given to the Jamaicans for their impressive competitiveness, and after they scored the first two points against the Guyanese in the final game of the tournament, I was worried like everyone else. However, the Guyanese contingent upped their level of play and levelled the score at the end of regular play time. It was during the first five minutes of overtime that the hi-five came into play.
Mexico also did well with their bronze medal win over The Bahamas, and all the other teams had some pretty good showings also.
Yes! I believe that the Rugby Union athletes deserve incentives in any shape or form and I would say to any potential donor, those athletes fought tooth and nail for the Golden Arrowhead and it would not hurt to show some appreciation.
I was also very delighted to learn of the other 2010 CAC medals achieved by the respective sports fraternities. They include squash, athletics and boxing.
Yours faithfully,
T Pemberton
