Four female employees were attacked by gunmen in the Esso gas station’s mini-mart on Vlissengen Road early yesterday morning.
The three men, police said in a press release, entered the mini mart and held supervisor Cindy Dhanraj and the other employees at gunpoint. They then took away an undisclosed sum of cash from the women before escaping. The incident, according to police, occurred at about 7.15 am.
When Stabroek News visited the gas station several hours after the incident occurred management declined to comment on the incident. However, this newspaper understands that two of the employees were assaulted by the gunmen.
“They hit two of the women but they were not seriously injured…just a bit shaken,” a worker, who requested anonymity, said.
This is the second time this year Esso, Vlissengen Road has been robbed by armed men.
In April two men attacked and robbed Dhanraj of $3 million cash. Sarwan Caesar, 33, and Lorris Mussenden, also 33, both appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton days after the April 5 robbery.
The men were not required to enter pleas to two joint indictable charges of robbery-under-arms, when they were read by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that on April 5, the duo used a gun to rob Ramnarine Fagu of a gold chain, a cellular phone and a quantity of cash, valued $34,000 in total. It is also alleged that on the same day, at Vlissengen Road, the duo again used a gun to rob Esso Gas Station clerk Dhanraj of a quantity of Guyana and US currency, a quantity of phone cards and a computer monitor, valued $3,014,029 in total.
