A couple was yesterday brought before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to answer charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and a quantity of ammunition.
Duncan Vanfield and Melissa Singh, both of Sophia, pleaded not guilty to the charges when Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton read them.
They denied that on August 1, at their Sophia home, they had a .32 revolver and six rounds of ammunition in their possession without being the holders of a firearm licence.
Prosecutor Shellon Daniels requested that the couple be remanded to prison and a date be set for the commencement of the Prelimi-nary Inquiries into their matter.
Daniels also noted that Vanfield currently has an armed robbery matter pending against him in the court.
At this point Singh started to cry and Vanfield told the magistrate, “Ow please I was de one that geh find wid de firearm not ma child mother (Singh).”
The magistrate then asked him if he wanted to change his plea to guilty but after a while Vanfield stated that the plea will remain not guilty for him.
The magistrate then ordered that the couple return to court on August 31.
