LEICESTER, England, CMC – Former West Indies seamer Corey Collymore snatched an eight-wicket match haul to help fire Sussex to an enterprising innings victory over Leicestershire inside three days last weekend.
The right-armer, who played the last of his 30 Tests three years ago on a tour of England, finished with figures of eight for 90 as the hosts spiraled to an innings and 19-run defeat in the English County Championship Division Two at Grace Road.
It was Collymore’s lethal six-wicket haul on Saturday that proved Leicestershire’s undoing. Trailing by 175 runs on first innings, Leicestershire collapsed to 156 all out in their second innings with the 32-year-old Barbadian taking six for 48.
Collymore started the damage in the second over of the innings when he removed Phil Nixon, lbw without scoring in the second over of the innings.
He sent back the other opener Will Jefferson for six, also lbw four overs later with the score on 13 for two.
A sixth-wicket partnership of 79 between Jacques du Toit (81) and Wayne White (23) held up Sussex before Collymore returned to break the stand by removing du Toit to a slip catch by Michael Yardy.
He claimed Claude Henderson in the same over via Yardy before wrapping up the innings with the wickets of Nadeem Malik (6) and Matthew Hoggard (1).
