(BBC) Sachin Tendulkar had little chance to make an impact on day one of the third Test against Sri Lanka as he became the most capped player in Test history yesterday.
The India legend, 37, is making his 169th appearance, passing the record of former Australia captain Steve Waugh.
After winning the toss and batting, Sri Lanka’s middle order guided them to 293-4 at the close in Colombo.
Captain Kumar Sangakkara top-scored with a fine 75, while Thilan Samaraweera was 65 not out at stumps.
Tendulkar holds numerous records in addition to his new mark for Test caps, including most Test centuries (48) and most Test runs (13,742).
