A 19-year-old security guard, who allegedly attempted to join the Guyana Police Force by presenting to it a forged Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) Certificate, yesterday appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Alex Fraser of Lot 331 Victoria Village, East Coast Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charges of uttering a forged document and forgery when Magistrate Priya Beharry read them to him.
He denied that on June 18, with intent to defraud, he forged a CXC Certificate purporting to show that he had attained a Grade Three in English A, knowing this to be false.
He also denied that on the same day, at the Felix Austin Police College he uttered to Corporal Bob a forged CXC Certificate.
His lawyer Nigel Anthony applied for reasonable bail for him on the grounds that he poses no risk of flight and if released his client will return to court when required.
However, Prosecutor Stephen Telford stated that on the day in question Fraser went to the Felix Austin Police College to join the police force.
He said that he wrote the college’s entrance examination and afterwards gave Corporal Bob the CXC Certificate.
He noted that it was only after checks subsequently that the police discovered that the English A grade was forged from a Grade Five to a Grade Three.
He said that Fraser was then told of the offence, arrested and charged.
The magistrate ordered that the cases be transferred to Court Two for September 7 where Fraser is expected to make another court appearance.
