The Linden Fund organization in collaboration with the Overseas Medical Assistance Team is hosting its annual medical mission to Linden and the broader Region 10. It started on Sunday.
Led by Linden-born Dr Stephen Carryl, Chairman of Surgery at the Brooklyn Hospital Center and a board member of the Linden Fund USA, the mission is also hosting a series of educational forums for medical, professional and community members. The team includes five medical doctors and surgeons from the USA, who will be supported by 11 overseas nurses, two social workers and support staff, nurses and other medical personnel attached to the Linden Hospital Complex.
Other members of the team are Dr Malaika Berkley, Dr Malcolm Goodchild, Dr Jonathan Pinto, Yuri Powell, Jacqueline McCrae-Clarke, Nicole Samuel, Elizabeth Coppin, Cecelia Williams, Conrad Forsythe, Wenda Hudson, Donna Simpson, Glendacy Thom, Donna Douglas, Ismay Griffith and Berneita Primo, Dian John, JoAnna Carryl and Linden Fund USA Secretary Linda Felix-Johnson.
Residents are urged to make appointments at the Linden Hospital Complex prior to the start of the mission. “The registration process is important since it will allow the visiting team of medical practitioners to properly prepare for the required needs of the patients,” Felix-Johnson said.
In 2007, the Fund held its first medical outreach with a 30-member medical team called the North East Mission of Hope. “This year, the Linden Fund is once again stepping up its focus on health care by sponsoring the OMAT medical mission to Linden in the hope that many residents of Region 10 would seize the opportunity to receive free and expert medical treatment, complimenting the existing services offered at the local hospitals and health posts,” Felix-Johnson said.
The Linden Fund is dedicated to improving the lives and living conditions of Linden residents through health care, education, job creation and economic development initiatives that are dedicated only to fundamental, long term and sustainable projects. The Linden Fund USA, in collaboration with its international partners, is playing a major role in sponsoring the medical visit this year in keeping with its mission of revitalizing Linden and its surrounding communities through a number of interventions. The Fund plans to compile a registry of medical professionals who would be encouraged to volunteer to provide services to the people of Region 10 regularly.
The mission closes on August 14.
