Dear Editor,
The Guyana Police Force is responding to an article published in the Stabroek News of Tuesday, August 3, under the caption ‘Police should investigate beating by three-man gang on Essequibo Coast.’
The letter to the editor which was written by Mr Rudolph Gibson dealt with an incident that reportedly occurred on July 29, 2010, at Market Road, Supenaam, Essequibo, during which Arnold Gibson, 36 years, and Howard Stephens, 38 years, of Supenaam were allegedly beaten by a group of men. Rudolph Gibson also expressed concern that during the investigations by the police “justice might not be done.”
The Police Force wishes to state that investigations were conducted into the matter at the conclusion of which Reuben Wilson, 20 years; Orlando Osbourne, 16 years; and Clyde Williams, 20 years, all of Supenaam, Essequibo, were charged with unlawful wounding committed on Arnold Gibson.
They appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s court on Tuesday where they pleaded ‘not guilty’ and were each placed on $50,000 cash bail to return to court on October 7, 2010, at Suddie.
In addition, Kenny Thomas, 16 years of Supenaam and Totaram Ramlochana, 19 years of Friendship, EBD, were charged with assault causing actual bodily harm committed on Howard Stephens.
They also appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty on Tuesday where they pleaded ‘not guilty’ and were placed on $20,000 cash bail each, to return to court on October 7, 2010, at Suddie.
