An elderly man succumbed one day after he was allegedly badly beaten by his stepson during a heated argument at their Johanna Cecilia, Essequibo Coast home.
Kenneth Lynch, age 74, died around 0830 hours yesterday shortly after he was air-dashed to the city.
The stepson has since been arrested and is assisting the police with their investigation.
Police said in a press release yesterday that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Lynch “who was allegedly beaten by his stepson during Wednesday at his residence”. The release said that the wounded man was admitted to the Suddie Hospital and later transferred to the Georgetown Hospital where he succumbed.
The dead man’s wife Doreen was too distraught to speak with this newspaper. Her daughter, Vanessa Thomas said that the two men had an ongoing problem and quarrelled a lot.
She told this newspaper that had she been home on Wednesday morning, it would not have escalated to the point that it did. The incident occurred around noon.
Thomas recalled that she was at work when she received a message about the incident.
When she arrived home she found Lynch’s “head buss” and her nephew dressing him.
The stepson (her brother) was not there. Together, she said they took the injured man to the hospital and early yesterday morning he was air-dashed to the city.
The woman expressed her belief that her brother was under the influence of alcohol when the incident occurred.
Thomas added that Lynch raised her brother from a tender age and as such should have treated him like a father.
