President Bharrat Jagdeo last evening hosted a reception at State House for residents of Buxton as they continued celebrations of the village’s 170th anniversary but the event attracted a demonstration by other Buxtonians who accused the administration of doing nothing for the village. According to the Government Information Agency, Lyndon Barton, a Buxtonian who resides overseas presented a copy of his book “20th Anniversary booklet for the Guyana and friends picnic in Delaware” to President Jagdeo last night. The book provides information about Guyana with the intention of stimulating interest by visitors.
After the start of the dinner a group of protesters held up placards outside of State House accusing the Jagdeo administration of disinterest and neglect of the village. One placard read `Jagdeo and PPP criminalize Buxton, Don’t eat the food and be fooled’ while another read `Jagdeo never visit Buxton as president why dine with him?’
