The R. Bassoo and Sons Limited-sponsored Golf tournament will be played today at the Lusignan Golf Course following a break for last weekend’s Emancipation activities.
Club Captain Patrick Prashad said that it is the first time that the company will be sponsoring a golf tournament and the executive of the Lusignan Golf Club has expressed appreciation for their sponsorship.
The tournament will be played under the Medal Play format and prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers with the best net scores.
There will also be a prize for Nearest to the Pin on hole number 8.
According to Prashad the players are eagerly looking forward to this competition since the inclement weather has affected the season so far.
Roy Bassoo, Managing Director of the company, is expected to attend and assist in the presentation of prizes.
Meanwhile, the Suriname Open which was scheduled for August 21-22 in the neighbouring republic has been postponed due to persistent rainfall in Paramaribo.
A new date for the tournament will be announced shortly.
A large contingent of local golfers had made preparations to travel to Suriname for the tournament.
It was disclosed that Courts Guyana Inc.’s annual tournament will take place on August 21 to fill the void left by the postponement of the Suriname Open.
