Rain continues to wreak havoc with the local golf season forcing the postponement of yet another tournament.
The R. Bassoo and Sons sponsored Medal Play tournament slated for last Saturday was called off due to the state of the Lusignan Golf Course.
Patrick Prashad, Captain of the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) disclosed that overnight rain left the course muddy forcing the club to postpone the competition.
“The ground was wet and muddy and we had no choice but to call it off,” said Prashad.
Since the end of June, the inclement weather has forced officials of the LGC to rescheduled tournaments including the Sanjay’s Jewellery competition, which was planned for Caricom weekend but was finally played off three weeks ago.
Officials are now looking forward to running off the Courts Guyana Inc tournament on August 21.
Meanwhile, Rain currently affecting the region has also forced organizers to call off the Suriname Open championships scheduled for August 21-22 in the neighbouring republic.
Twelve local golfers had already made initial flight plans to travel to the Paramaribo only to be told about the cancellation late last week.
The organizers in Suriname are now looking to stage the event at the end of September in an attempt to avoid a clash with the Guyana Open that is normally held in November.
Preparations are in progress for the Guyana Open that is expected to attract several overseas players from the United States, Canada, Suriname and the European Union.
