A seventh person has been held in connection with Sunday’s murder of ex cop Sheldon Matheson at Kildonan, Corentyne.
Police officials said yesterday that investigations are still being conducted.
In a follow up article on the incident in this newspaper’s Tuesday edition it was incorrectly stated that Crime Chief Seelall Persaud said that a woman with wounds was among those in custody and that she may have been injured by persons who attacked Matheson.
Persaud had in fact said that several persons who were indentified as being last seen with the man were being questioned by the police. He went on to say that a motive had not yet been identified but several leads were being pursued.
Stabroek News regrets the error and any embarrassment it may have caused.
Matheson, called ‘Mossi’, 32, of Lot 40 Alness village was found close to a roadside stall around 6 am and his body bore a gaping wound to his lower back, another to his right hand, close to his wrist and his throat was slit.
The gruesome discovery was made by a resident, Mookesh Beharry who recounted that upon looking out his window, he saw something in a crouching position. At first, he said, he thought it was a dog, but upon looking carefully he recognized that it was a person. He raised an alarm and many residents gathered.
Six persons including a woman with wounds to her body were subsequently arrested.
