A spring tide alert is in effect and residents in vulnerable, low-lying and riverain and coastal communities especially those living close to sea and river defences, are advised to take the necessary precautions.
According to a release from the HydroMet Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, spring tides of 3.35 m and 3.28 m are forecast for today at 4:26 am and 5:14 pm respectively. As such the responsible agency, the River and Sea Defence Department of the Public Works Ministry has been advised of the current situation and to take the necessary action.
In addition, the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) has been urged by the ministry to support local government authorities and to ensure all internal drainage systems are in working order.
The spring tide alert will be effective until Sunday, the release stated.
