The suspect in Saturday’s murder at Aranka Backdam, Cuyuni River will be charged after the post-mortem examination is conducted today.
Stabroek News understands that the suspect, who was handed over to the police by residents, was being transported to Georgetown. However it was unclear up to press time if he had arrived.
Divisional Commander Assistant Commissioner, David Ramnarine yesterday commended residents for their bravery in apprehending the murder suspect. He was handed over to the ranks when they arrived in the area to investigate the incident.
He said that it is important to praise residents especially since there are many unsolved murders and serious crimes in E&F Division. “We taking licks in terms of solving serious crimes”, the commander admitted.
He yesterday urged all residents to continuing giving their assistance to the police.
Brazilian miner Jose Rodriguez De Oliveira succumbed to chop wounds in his mining camp around 0600 hours.
Investigations have revealed that De Oliveira and the suspect were imbibing in their mining camp during which there was a confrontation between the two men. According to the police, it is alleged that De Oliveira assaulted the suspect with a cutlass and the suspect then stabbed him to the chest with a knife and also chopped him with the cutlass.
