Dear Editor,
As I understand it, a person appearing before a Magistrate charged with an offence, including murder, is presumed to be innocent until proven guilty. Further I believe that some offences are not bailable while most others are.
Editor, what bothers me is this: Is it lawful for a court to refuse to grant bail for an offence which is bailable to a person who is presumed to be innocent, on the grounds of “the prevalence of the offence?”
Yours faithfully,
RJ Eleazar
