Dear Editor,
I am responding to Rev Gideon Cecil’s letter ‘Burnham achieved nothing’ in your letter column dated August 10.
To put things in proper perspective, I wish to remind the Reverend that Church and politics are two distinct subjects that require intense studies, and as such he should stick to the Good Book (Bible).
With the construction of the Linden/ Soesdyke Highway, the Demerara Harbour Bridge, President’s College, hospitals, and police stations, and the advent of free education from nursery to university and much more, are these not evidence of achievements? Likewise, the PPP/C will tell you that the construction of the four-lane road, the Berbice Bridge, and others are all evidence of achievement. So, what more evidence does Mr Cecil need?
Yes, the late Executive President LFS Burnham was a visionary and a statesman, qualities that can hardly be discerned around us today, and yes, like him we all have our faults and shortcomings, but who is the Rev to judge?
Yours faithfully,
Kirtley Williams
