The PNCR North American Region (NAR) recently held a strategic planning retreat and conference in Linden aimed at mobilising support ahead of next year’s elections.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party’s NAR said the retreat was organised to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the death of PNC founder leader Forbes Burnham. The theme of the conference was “Mobilising the North America Region in support of the party’s movement back to power” and the NAR said the conference was “a huge success, meeting all of its stated objectives.”
The conference was designed to review and internalise the present political context and the PNCR’s plan to regain power; outline the present role and focus of NAR; explore new arrangements and possible roles for NAR in support of the PNCR in the run up to national elections; and suggest areas of transformation and change of the party in support of its movement back to power.
The facilitator of the conference was Dr. Aubrey Armstrong and the conference planning chair was Col. (Rtd.) Larry London. In addition to attendance from representatives from the North America Region, the conference saw participation from party leader Robert Corbin, Chairman Cammie Ramsaroop, Vice-Chairs Dr. George Norton and Basil Williams as well as representatives from various local groups. Corbin delivered the charge at the close of the conference and the statement said his presentation was very nostalgic as he revisited the Burnham era. “He ended with a challenge to everyone to always put the party first and to preserve its rich legacy,” the statement said.
The NAR also presented awards to several party stalwarts from Linden for their outstanding contributions and long service to the party. Some recipients have as many as 50 years of dedicated service to the party.
