KINGSTOWN, St Vincent, CMC – Barbados crushed Dominica to record the biggest win of the second round of the WICB Women’s 50-Overs League but Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica reeled off second successive victories to leap to the top of their respective groups.
Playing at Arnos Vale 2, Barbados defeated Dominica by a mammoth 224 runs to rebound from their heavy eight-wicket loss to Jamaica in the opening round on Thursday.
T&T, meanwhile, held off St Vincent and Grenadines by 13 runs in a close encounter at Arnos Vale 1 while at Victoria Park, Jamaica easily brushed aside St Lucia by 130 runs in a rain-affect affair.
Needing a win to remain in the competition, Barbados hit back strongly by rattling up 283 for seven off their allotted 50 overs, with West Indies player Pam Lavine top-scoring with 59 and Charlene Taitt getting 57.
Opener Kycia Knight hammered 46 to give Barbados a good start while her twin sister Kyshonna chipped in with 29.
Fast bowler Danielle small than snatched four for 12 while fellow seamer Shakera Selman took two for six as Dominica plummeted to 59 all out.
Pearl Etienne, who had grabbed three for 62, top-scored with 26.
At Arnos Vale 1, Trinidad and Tobago made 168 with Gaitri Seetahal hitting 53 before limiting the hosts to 155 for nine off their 50 overs.
SVG seemed down and out at 67 for seven before Melissa Bellingy (31) and Sherry-Ann John (25) put on a face-saving 48 in a seventh-wicket stand to carry their side close to their target.
The win lifted T&T to the top of Zone B with eight points following their 41-run win over Guyana in the opening round.
Prolific batsman Stafanie Taylor hammered 84, her second successive half-century, to pilot Jamaica to 194 all out in a match reduced to 37 overs after several rain breaks.
St Lucia were then dismissed for a paltry 64 from 31.1 overs with Taylor being the chief destroyer with four for 15 from her eight overs off-spin while left-arm spinner Shanel Daley chipped in with three for 15.
Jamaica lead Group B with eight points.
At Stubbs, Guyana carved out their first win over the competition when they beat Grenada by 85 runs.
Batting first, the Guyanese made 176 for one off their 50 overs before dismissing the Grenadians for 91.
June Ogle-Thomas stroked an unbeaten 81 and shared a huge unbroken stand of 161 for the second wicket with Shemaine Campbell who hit 64 not out.
Campbell then returned to capture three for 14 with her leg-spin to undermine Guyana as Joanna van Sertima (3-10) and Tremayne Smartt (3-25) also grabbed three wickets apiece.
