Following his second place finish in the just-concluded Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) trials on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, young racquet wielder Edinho Lewis has been named on the men’s team for this year’s Commonwealth Games in India.
Lewis finished second to Christopher Franklyn in the two-day trials and also earned the sum of $50,000.
Franklyn, a member of the Guyana CAC team, earned $100,000.
Lewis will join the Commonwealth Games trio of Idi Lewis (no relation) Franklyn and Paul David for the October 3-14 games.
The women’s team will comprise overseas-based Trenace Lowe and Michelle John along with Natalie Cummings who won the female version of the GTTA trials on Tuesday and Wednesday.
However according to information reaching Stabroek Sport the GTTA has only been allotted four tickets for the games which mean that the GTTA might be forced to make the tough decision to send either a male or female team to the games.
Meanwhile in the male section of the trials Franklyn was pushed all the way and was forced to use all his experience before defeating Lewis 7-11, 14-12, 11-4, 10-12, 11-7.
Lewis had game points in the second game which he lost while Franklyn led 10-8 in the fourth before Lewis won the next four points to force the decisive fifth game.

Meusa took the third spot ahead of Bryan while Hopkinson finished fifth.
In other results, Lewis defeated Bryan at 11-8, 11-9, 8-11, 11-8 and Hopkinson 11-8, 13-11 and 11-6 but lost to Meusa 11-5, 11-9, 9-11, 7-11 and 9-11.
