Team Guyana ended day one of the Goodwill Games Swimming Championships, currently underway in Suriname, with a gold medal and three silver medals yesterday.
Winning gold for Guyana was Britany van Lange who placed first in the girls’ 13-14 years 100-metre freestyle event.
Van Lange finished ahead of Trinidad and Tobago’s Sangeeta Maharaj, who finished second, while Rhea Babb of Barbados took the bronze medal.
Winning individual silver medals for Guyana at the end of the first day were Ronaldo Rodrigues in the boys’ 13-14 years 50-metre breaststroke event and Noelle Smith in the girls’ 15-17 years 50-metre breaststroke event.
Team Guyana also took a silver medal in the boys’ 15-17 years 400-metre medley relay.
