A man accused of robbing and attempting to murder a woman was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
The allegation is that on August 2 at Georgetown, being armed with a gun, Vickram Persaud robbed Trishan Heywood of jewels valued $420,000. On the same day also the defendant is accused of discharging a loaded firearm at the said Trishan Heywood with intent to murder her.
The defendant was not required to plead to the indictable charges of robbery-under-arms and attempted murder when they were read to him by the magistrate.
Attorney-at-law Adrian Thompson who represented the accused informed the court that he was not going to make an application for bail since the matters are indictable.
The prosecution then made a submission for the accused to be remanded to prison and a date set for legal advice to be sought into the matter.
Persaud was later remanded to prison and ordered to return to court on August 31.
