(Jamaica Observer) The Westmorland Police fatally shot five gunmen in two separate incidents in the parish yesterday morning.
The incidents occurred about 12:10 in Georges Plain and 3:30 in Sheffield.
Police say 22-year-old bar owner Rasheeed Golaud was on his way home from his businessplace in Georges Plain when he was attacked by a gang of armed thugs. The gunmen robbed and killed Golaud.
Police who were in the area spotted the men in a Toyota Caldina motorcar and a shoot out ensued. Three of the robbers were shot dead by the cops.
The other two gunmen were shot dead by police in the district of Sheffield near the resort town of Negril.
The alleged gunmen have not yet been identified but an Observer source said four of them are from Spanish Town.
Two guns and 16 rounds of ammunition were seized.
The Bureau of Special Investigation is probing both incidents.
