A 56-year-old woman of Sophia accused of assaulting and using threatening behaviour to two young women was yesterday placed on $30,000 bail when she appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
The allegation is that on August 11 at Georgetown, Esther Pereira of 73 Block E Sophia used threatening behaviour to Ashanti Sankar and Natasha Johnson, resulting in a breach of the peace. On the same day also the defendant is alleged to have assaulted Johnson.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the two counts of threatening behaviour and an assault charge when they were read to her by the magistrate.
When asked to respond, the unrepresented Pereira made an application on her own behalf to be placed on reasonable bail.
The prosecution had no objection to the bail application made by the defendant.
Pereira was later placed on $30,000 bail. She was ordered to return to court on September 9 for reports.
